Why Patients Don’t Consider Undergoing Facelifts

Accordingly, most patients have less invasive options in getting rid of the unwanted ‘wattle’, this according to a study reported in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, official medical journal of ASPS, or the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, through targeted neck rejuvenation techniques.

The author of the study, James Zins, said that it is not at all times when patients seek to correct their facial aging, they want or are required for a facelift procedure. Most of the patients today are extremely active and are not that open about undergoing an invasive surgery in which they are unable to play or work for a number of weeks. With the alternative, a lot of patients will eventually look younger without having to worry much about financial costs and downtime that are normally associated in standard facelifts.

What Causes the Neck ‘Wattles’?

Once people start to age, oftentimes they will loose the definitions in their jaw line and their chin because of fatty deposits, resulting to the weakening of the muscles and loosening of the skin in which the chin and the neck were once at the right angle. When the neck region is gradually improved, the profiles of the patients eventually look years younger, and they can eventually wear necklaces, ties, and turtlenecks more comfortably.

The skin around the neck region basically differed from the skin on the other parts of ones body. The skin on your neck maintains its elasticity and eventually contract once it has been released from the underlying muscle. To remove the fat, an incision behind the ears and under the skin combines with muscle tightening and effectively frees the skin from the muscle. However, this depends on the individual patient characteristics and degree of aging.

For younger patients who also have ‘wattles’ due to excessive fat deposits can be subject for a liposuction procedure.  For the middle-aged patients, doing a muscle tightening technique is a possibly solution. And for those patients who are more than 75 years old, contouring the neck region is necessary.

Effects of Neck Rejuvenation Techniques

In a study conducted, thirty-three patients were treated making use if varied neck rejuvenation techniques. Twenty of them have experienced moderate improvements on their neck region, while the remaining twelve noticed marked improvements.

According to Dr. Zin, one in ten patients is a possible candidate for a neck rejuvenation, While this has been a proven procedure, patients have to maintain realistic expectations. Neck rejuvenation techniques are simply for the chin and the neck areas only. The upper and the middle part of the face do not benefit by the said procedures.
